The Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) integrates remote sensing and GIS technologies to deliver global MODIS hotspot/fire locations to natural resource managers and other stakeholders around the World.

FIRMS is funded by NASA and builds on
Web Fire Mapper, a web mapping interface that displays hotspots/fires detected by the MODIS Rapid Response System and delivers near real-time hotspot/fire information to international users and support fire managers around the World.

Improvments made to the FIRMS Fire Email Alerts
We have made some exciting new changes to the FIRMS Fire Email Alerts. These updates are intended to make the alerts system more stable and easy to use. Here are some of the highlights:

- Brand new map interface: The map interface now uses the popular OpenLayers library.
- Ability to make your subscriptions active or inactive.
- Subscribers can now edit their personal information, including their email addresss.
- Name your alert: Create a custom name for your subscription.
- Separate polygons for USA (Lower 48), USA (Alaska), and USA (Hawaii). All the current "USA" subscriptions are defaulted to "USA (Lower 48)"

Updated FIRMS website
FIRMS has updated the website to reflect changes with our WMS, KML, and shapefile offerings of the MODIS active fire/hotspot data. These services are now based on our open source mapping system. We hope these services will be robust and stable.

Phasing out of the ArcIMS version of Web Fire Mapper
FIRMS will be phasing out the ArcIMS version of the Web Fire Mapper within the next few months. Please use the open source version of Web Fire Mapper.
