The Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS)
integrates remote sensing and GIS technologies to deliver global MODIS hotspot/fire locations and burned area information to natural resource managers and other stakeholders around the World.

FIRMS is funded by NASA and builds
on Web Fire Mapper, a web mapping interface that displays hotspots/fires detected by the MODIS Rapid Response System and delivers near real-time hotspot/fire information and monthly burned area information to international users and support fire managers around the World.

FAO launches the Global Fire Information Management System (August 11, 2010)
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization recently launched the Global Fire Information Management System (GFIMS). GFIMS will become part of the operational monitoring systems at FAO and will complement their existing suite of projects that deliver near real time information to ongoing monitoring and emergency projects, to other UN organizations as well as providing information to the general public. MODIS Burned Area images in Web Fire Mapper (August 2, 2010)
Monthly MODIS Burned Area images are now available for viewing in Web Fire Mapper. Please visit the background page for more information regarding the burned area product.

FIRMS Email Alerts available in French (July 21, 2010)
FIRMS is now offering the daily, weekly and near-real time (rapid) fire email alerts in French. You have the option to choose to recieve email alerts in French when adding a new subscription or editing an existing subscription.

Phasing out of the ArcIMS version of Web Fire Mapper (March 20, 2010)
FIRMS will be phasing out the ArcIMS version of the Web Fire Mapper within the next few months. Please use the open source version of Web Fire Mapper.
