MODIS Active Fire/Hotspot Data

FIRMS offers several different formats of MODIS hotspot/active fire data that users can download.

Active fire/hotspot text files

Daily active fire/hotspot text files for the last 2 months are available for download from the following FTP site: ftp://mapsftp.geog.umd.edu

Active fire/hotspot shapefiles

Active fire/hotspot detections in shapefile format are available for the last 24 hours, 48 hours and 7 day time periods.

Web Fire Mapper WMS

The Web Fire Mapper WMS (version 1.1.1) offers Open GIS Consoritum standard Web Map Service interface. Using the Web Fire Mapper WMS, you can allow your local (desktop) or web GIS clients to access the Web Fire Mapper data from the last 24 and 48 hours, without accessing Web Fire Mapper.

KML/Google Earth

FIRMS provides KML (Keyhole Markup Language) for displaying hotspot/fire detections for the last 24 hours and 48 hours, to use in software such as Google Earth.

NASA World Wind Plugin for active fire/hotspot detections

FIRMS provides a plugin for NASA World Wind to display hotspot/fire detections for the last 48 hours.

Climate Modeling Grid (CMG)

The CMG fire products are gridded statistical summaries of fire pixel information intended for use in regional and global modeling. The products are provided in 0.5 spatial resolution in monthly and 8 day time periods. The products are provided in FITS and HDF formats.
